Choosing among the workflow and data apps
This group covers three jobs. Automation: n8n connects the SaaS and internal systems a department already uses through a visual editor, and Windmill suits teams that would rather write Python or TypeScript and turn scripts into internal tools. Data: PostgreSQL is the database under most of this list, NocoDB puts a spreadsheet interface on it for people leaving Airtable, Directus puts an API and an admin panel on it for developers, and Garage keeps files and backups as S3-compatible objects. Reporting: Metabase answers questions without SQL, Apache Superset serves analysts who write it, Grafana watches systems, Matomo measures your websites without sending visitors to an advertising company, and LimeSurvey collects the answers you ask for.
Choose by who will build. Business teams usually settle on n8n, NocoDB and Metabase; engineering teams on Windmill, Directus and Superset. Check the licence first: n8n and NocoDB ship under the Sustainable Use Licence and Directus under the Business Source License, and each page says what that allows and what would need a commercial licence in your name.
