Where the line sits

Most gaps in a managed service are a task each side thought the other was doing. The split below removes the guesswork.

Pilae Cloud: we run the stack

Machines, operating system, network, apps, backups and monitoring. You use the apps and own what is in them.

On premises: you host, we operate

You provide the hardware, the rack and the power. Pilae runs everything from the operating system up.

You approve changes

The Pilae Agent plans each change and waits. Your approval, or a rule you wrote, is what lets it run.

You decide who gets in

Your users, roles and identity provider are yours. Pilae engineers reach your environment through named accounts only.

Your data stays yours

You own the content, decide what goes into each app and choose where it lives. We process it only on your instructions.

Incidents, handled together

Monitoring and alerting run around the clock on every plan. Pilae engineers respond within your plan's hours, around the clock on Enterprise.

The shared responsibility matrix

The table shows the default split. Your contract carries the version agreed with your team.

Pilae Cloud: we run the stack

In Pilae Cloud your apps run on dedicated machines in the region you choose, from any of 12 regions, six of them in Switzerland and the EU. Pilae is responsible for those machines and everything on them. The datacentres are ISO 27001-certified. Your team uses the apps, manages its users and approves the changes the Pilae Agent proposes.

Monitoring and alerting run around the clock on every plan. Incident response follows your plan: business hours on Essential, around the clock on Enterprise. See pricing for what each plan includes and the service level agreement for the 99.9% monthly availability commitment.

On premises: you host, we operate

On your premises the building and the hardware are yours. Pilae runs everything from the operating system up, through the private network, with the same monitoring, backups and audit log as in Pilae Cloud. A hybrid deployment uses both columns, app by app.

What stays yours in every model

Your data, your users and your approvals. You decide who can sign in, what goes into each app and when changes run. Pilae processes your data only on your instructions, as set out in the data processing agreement. For the operations service behind the Pilae column, see managed operations.

How we agree the split with you

  1. Choose the model

Pilae Cloud, on premises, hybrid or air-gapped, per app if you need it.

  2. Walk the table

We go through each row below with your team and adjust it where your policies differ.

  3. Name the contacts

Pilae engineers, named on Enterprise plans, and your own contacts for approvals, access and incidents.

Questions

What does Pilae manage in Pilae Cloud?

Everything from the machine up: the dedicated servers, the operating system, the private network, the apps, updates, backups and monitoring. You manage your users, your data and your approvals.

What does Pilae manage on my premises?

Everything from the operating system up: the apps, updates, backups, monitoring and the private network. You provide the hardware, the datacentre, power, cooling and physical security.

Who is responsible for my data?

You are the controller and own your data. Pilae processes it on your instructions as your processor, under the data processing agreement, and keeps it in the location you choose.

Who applies security fixes?

Pilae tracks advisories for every app you run and plans each fix. You approve it, or a rule you set approves it, and Pilae applies it in your window.

Can we run part of the stack ourselves?

Yes. Some teams keep their own identity provider, storage or network edge. We record that in the responsibility matrix so each side knows exactly where its duties start and stop.
