Why teams leave HubSpot CRM

The customer list is the business

Names, deal sizes, notes from calls. With Twenty on your own machines, that record sits in your Postgres, in the country you chose, and nowhere else.

Your data model, not a tier

Custom objects and fields are part of Twenty itself. You shape the CRM around how you sell without moving up a plan to do it.

One database you can query

The CRM data lives in Postgres next to your other systems. Reporting tools and automations read it over the private network through the API, not through an export.

Self-hosted CRM

HubSpot is easy to start with, and its hubs cover far more than a CRM: campaigns, landing pages, ticketing, content. Many teams that leave it use only the CRM part, and pay for it by seat, while their full customer record sits in a vendor’s data centre. Where newsletters or support conversations also run through HubSpot, listmonk sends the campaigns, and Chatwoot or Zammad takes the conversations and tickets.

Twenty is a modern open-source CRM: companies, people, opportunities and your own custom objects, with mail and calendar sync and an API for everything. Pilae deploys it on your premises or on dedicated machines in any of 12 Pilae Cloud regions, six of them in Switzerland and the EU, reachable through the private network. Where the data sits is set out on our data residency page.

Moving off HubSpot without losing the history

The records import cleanly once the object map is agreed, so that is where we start. Automations are the part that takes judgement: we rebuild the ones in use as Twenty workflows or in n8n, and retire the rest. The move is part of our fixed-price migration. Single sign-on through identity needs Twenty’s commercial edition, and the proposal says whether you need it.

After the switch, the Pilae Agent plans each Twenty upgrade, waits for your approval and applies it in your window. Pricing is on request. Tell us how you use HubSpot and we come back with a plan.

Moving from HubSpot CRM to Twenty

  1. Map the objects in use

Contacts, companies, deals, pipelines and the custom properties people actually fill in. Properties nobody has touched in a year are left behind.

  2. Export and import

HubSpot exports records and their associations. We load them into Twenty with the relations intact and compare counts and sample records against the source.

  3. Reconnect mail and automations

Each user connects their mailbox and calendar to Twenty. HubSpot workflows are rebuilt as Twenty workflows or n8n automations, one by one.

  4. Switch on an agreed day

Sales works in Twenty from the switch date, HubSpot stays readable for reference, and the subscription ends at the next renewal.

Questions

Is Twenty open source?

Yes. Twenty is published under AGPL-3.0. A small set of features, including single sign-on with SAML or OpenID Connect and row-level permissions, is under Twenty's commercial licence. If you need them, the subscription is held in your name and shown in the proposal.

We use HubSpot for marketing emails too. What replaces that?

Not Twenty. It is a CRM, not a marketing platform, and we do not stretch it to fit. For newsletters and campaigns to opt-in lists, listmonk runs beside it and sends through the mail relay you already use. It tracks opens and clicks; it does not build landing pages or score leads. We look at what you send, how often and to whom before proposing it.

What happens to email history and notes?

Notes, tasks and the associations between records come across in the import. Logged emails depend on what HubSpot exports for your plan, which we check before quoting. New mail syncs from the mailbox once each user connects it.

Can we keep our pipelines and deal stages?

Yes. Pipelines and stages are recreated in Twenty before the import, so every opportunity lands in the stage it was in.

What happens to our CRM data if we leave Pilae?

It is in your Postgres, and the compose files and runbook are in your repository. Twenty also exports to CSV from any view.
